Another 3 months has gone and it is time for my 3. quarter Traffic Report for 2014. I just love Google Analytic statistics, because it can tell me a lot about my blog. A lot of bloggers don’t care about their stats and that is fine with me, but if you like me, also love to keep track on your visitors with Google Analytics keep on reading 🙂
Traffic Types
- Search Engines: 52.1%
- Direct traffic: 22.8%
- Referring Sites: 15.2%
- Social traffic: 9.8%
- Email and Other traffic: 0.20%
Compared with Q2 my organic traffic keep on improving a little. It is not like the good old days where 70% of all my traffic was organic, but I am very pleased to see just a little improvement month after month.
Organic traffic (Search Engines Only)
- Google: 90.0%
- Bing: 5.7%
- Yahoo: 3.5%
- Baidu: 0.25%
- Ask: 0.23%
Whatever Microsoft are trying to tell you, Google is still the King of Search and Bing looks like some kind of experiment..!
Top 5 Referring Sites
- stumbleupon.com
- lifehacker.com
- social.technet.microsoft.com
- techtutorials.net
- semalt.semalt.com
This quarter something very interesting happened. My post about Microsoft Virtual Academy was linked to on lifehacker.com 🙂 I did not notice that before I saw something crazy was happening with my traffic on August 14th. I had more than 300 visits that day and that’s a lot more than I am used to have. Unfortunately, the traffic was dropping just as rapidly as it was coming and my post was getting old news on their site. However it was still great to get that kind of attention to my blog even for just a few days.
Top 10 visitors by Country
- United States
- Denmark
- India
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Germany
- Canada
- Pakistan
- Brazil
- Philippines
The English speaking countries are still strong represented on this list and of cause, Denmark is also high on the list because this blog is a .dk domain and I am a Dane myself.
Key Numbers of Q3 2014
Q3 was a nice improvement over Q2 of 2014 when it comes to visits on my blog. The bounce rate is almost the same.
- Number of Visits to my blog: 8464 visits (8001 visits in Q2 report)
- Bounce Rate: 72.70% (72.94% in Q2 report)
Conclusion of my Traffic Report
To sum up this report I must say that I was very surprised that my post about Microsoft Virtual Academy was going to be that popular. It is not always the posts that you put in the most work to that end up being most popular to your readers. Sometimes you just hit something by surprise that no one have thought of. Overall I am happy with my traffic this quarter. It seams as I keep getting more and more traffic from Google even it is growing very slow. I still wish that I was able to post more posts here on my blog, by I do have limited time and I don’t want to post just to do it. I only want to write about something that I find interesting.
Thank you very much for visiting my blog and fell free to drop a comment below, if you have any questions.
Nice job, wonder how lifehacker found your post to link to it…
Me too Jason, but I am glad they did 😀
Great stat updates Thomas, have you got yourself sorted for the next Penguin update, I do believe that one is rolling out sooner or later and we all know how that can affect our stats 🙁
Hi Karen
I don’t think I will ever by ready for a Penguin update, but I hope I will survive the next one too 😉
Ahaa Nice stats and good description . Keep growing . Panda and penguin update is coming . Maybe your traffic will increase much.
That would be nice. I have lost a lot of traffic on some of the earlier updates on the past.
Hi Thomas, nice to meet you. Great statistics and always great to see blogs reporting about their traffic stats. All the best mate, keep up the great work and congrats on the traffic spike from LifeHacker. Occasionally I get the odd traffic spike from StumbleUpon, not many bloggers use this platform anymore to promote content, so was great to see it in your top referral traffic sources.
Great stats and thank you for sharing! It’s always hard to find someone’s real stats, but it helps so much to understand your own. I always wondered how people maintain bounce rate of 30% – now I see it’s ok for many sites to have it more natural
Hi Victoria
On a Technology blog like this I think a lot of people come here because they have found one of my post on Google because they where looking for something special that I have posted about. To keep them here to read more of my post I find very difficult. Maybe it was easier if I was writing about another topic that was hard to find information about. I am okay with my bounce rate, but of cause I am always looking for improvements 🙂
Wow Nice Stats can you give me any tips to increase Search Engine traffic. The stats are simply Mind blowing and Glad that you are getting traffic from lifehacker too 🙂
Thank you.
I just visit your blog and it look very nice. Good design and it load fast. Are you using Google Webmaster tools? It can give you some great tips for SEO improvement and tell you if you are doing something that Google Search Engine don’t like. Other than that, just write good blog posts and get quality backlinks from other tech blogs and website.
One important question, how is did you manage to get life hacker in to top referring sites. I understand that it was linked to your post. But how? was it a guest post?
Hi Shalin
Lifehacker just find my post on their own and decided to bring the news with my post as their source. Not sure how they found it, but properly in Twitter or Facebook.
Nice report Thomas. I would like LifeHacker use my posting too,… 🙂
So what about your monthly adsense report?
Thanks. My AdSense income is almost not existing. Not much to report there 🙁
I think technology blogs do need some time to get good traffic. What do you think?
Hi
I would say that it takes both time and a lot of effort to stand out from all the other tech blogs out there.
Awesome analytics man, the blog is not yet old enough and the stats are just amazing. I wish I can get the same or even a little less than this to my blog and I am sure with your tips and tricks I will be able to do so.
Thanks for sharing, it was inspirational though, keep writing!
Thank you Ammar 🙂
It’s been a long time I did not visit this blog, and appropriate what already guessed analysis report for this site in the 3rd quarter of 2014.
In the past, my comments about bounce rate Q2, and now it appears there was an increase in performance, 0.24% for Q3 is good.
Unlike 76% of my site:-) Indicates need to learn to write a lot… HAHAHA …
Tada!!! Maybe next time we have a good BR for 60-70% Thumbs-UP
